Cost, devices, and what's actually here
What does it cost?
Free during beta. We'll tell you 60 days before that changes, with a clear price. No card required to try it.
What devices does it work on?
Any modern Android tablet for the wall hub (a $40 Fire HD works). Parents and older kids use the PWA on iOS or Android phones. Desktop browser also works. No app store install needed.
Do I need a tablet to use it?
No. The hub is optional. If you'd rather just use phones, that works. The hub is the magic for kids who don't have a phone yet.
Does it work offline?
Yes. The hub and PWA both cache locally and sync when wifi comes back. The kitchen tablet keeps working even when your router doesn't.
How kids use it and what they can't do
How do little kids sign in?
They tap their photo on the hub. No password, no account to remember. Each kid just picks their avatar from the family lineup.
Can my kid talk to the AI?
No. The AI doesn't talk to kids. It helps the parent set things up. Kids see chores and rewards, not a chatbot.
My kid will cheat and mark things done.
Optional photo proof, optional parent approval. Use them where trust hasn't been earned yet. Skip them where it has.
What does the kid UI actually look like at different ages?
Same data, four different skins. A 4-year-old gets big tiles and icons. A 14-year-old gets a dense view that feels like a real tool. Age picks the UI; you don't.
What we send where
Does my family data leave the app?
Chore text gets parsed by an AI service so we can extract who/what/when/points. That's the only outbound trip. Journal entries, mood notes, and kid messages never leave.
Do you sell or share data with advertisers?
No. Chicknz is a personal project, not an ad business. There are no third-party analytics in the app. There's no ad-tech relationship to sell.
What if I want to leave?
Export your data and delete the family. Both work from settings. No retention games.
But what about...
The AI parses something wrong.
You see the parsed version before it goes live. Edit anything, save. The AI is a typing helper, not a gatekeeper.
We're switching from another app. Can I import?
Manual right now. Add each kid + chore by hand. We're working on CSV import for chore-tracker exports. Tell us which app you're coming from and we'll prioritize it.
What if I have shared custody or a co-parent?
Invite the other parent as a second admin. Both see and approve. Kids get one identity that follows them across both households.
Where Chicknz is right now
How stable is the beta?
Our family runs on it daily. The chore, reward, hub, and calendar loops are stable. Skill trees and homework help are newer; expect rough edges.
Who's behind it?
Keino. NYC, dad of three. Eight years as a financial analyst before learning to ship code, now building this and running the books for a Brooklyn nonprofit. The whole story is on the Our story page.
What's solid today
The daily loop is dependable: chores, rewards, the wall hub, and the calendar all run smoothly, and my family leans on them every day. Newer corners like skill trees and homework help are still getting polished. You're not waiting on a roadmap to get value on day one.
Try it with your family.
Free during beta. Import a family or start from scratch. Takes five minutes. Your fridge will thank you.
